Yam still has engines built 6-9yrs back sitting warehouses that they sell to boat manufactures as new engines. If the engine was stolen and reported to them as soon as someone using that serial number to buy the part for it they will know it's a hot engine. Merc constantly changes there engines throughout each year and to buy a part fro a Merc engine from a dealer you have to have the serial number. Now I know Merc has this in their system. Right and it should be the job of LEO's to report stolen outboard serial numbers to an dealer of that outboard. There is a 2014 70hp that has a very close KW power rating according to NADA that is also a 4 cylinder motor, but according to everything I have read, the manufacturer date now determines the model year.Ĭlick to expand. The guy said it is a 80 HP, but yamaha does not make an 80HP.Ģ013 yamaha motors for the 60 and 70hp range are 3 cylinder motors but this is a 4 cylinder.Īnother plate says that it is a max power rating of 50KW. I also want to see exactly what motor it is. There are no signs of the plate being pryed off of the motor either. I don't have any reason to think it is but with the plate missing it makes me wonder. My first and foremost is that I want to make sure that the motor is not stolen. The engine is clean, guy has the title for everything else but he is the second owner of the motor. The cowling does not have any horsepower numbers on it either.
I am looking at a boat/motor and trailer but the motor does not have the identification label plate on it.
